Inaugural North American Traveling Fellowship Award, The Steadman Clinic & Steadman Philippon Research Institute

A/Prof Sumit Raniga has been honoured as the inaugural recipient of the ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons) and SESA (Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia) North American Traveling Fellowship Award 2024. This prestigious award allowed him to represent SESA at leading North American centres of excellence in shoulder and elbow surgery.

Part 6 – The Steadman Clinic & Steadman Philippon Research Institute

A/Prof Sumit Raniga had the honour of visiting The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado, founded by the late Dr J. Richard Steadman (June 4, 1937 – January 20, 2023), a renowned innovator and mentor in orthopaedic sports medicine. The Steadman Clinic has grown into one of the world’s most respected orthopaedic organisations, combining cutting-edge clinical care with groundbreaking research.

Steadman Philippon Research Institute has collected clinical data and tracked patient outcomes for over three decades, creating one of the largest orthopaedic research databases in the world focused on evidence based sports medicine. The clinic has a distinguished history of treating elite athletes, including members of the USA Olympic teams.

During the visit, A/Prof Raniga had the privilege of spending time with Professor Peter J. Millett and Professor Matthew T. Provencher, MD, MBA, MC USNR (Ret.), gaining invaluable insights at this world renowned centre of excellence in orthopaedic sports medicine and surgery.
