A/Prof Sumit Raniga has been honoured as the inaugural recipient of the ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons) and SESA (Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia) North American Traveling Fellowship Award 2024. This prestigious award allowed him to represent SESA at leading North American centres of excellence in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Part 1 – Columbia Orthopaedics & New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
A/Prof Sumit Raniga represented the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia (SESA) at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital Shoulder Service, the oldest and one of the most prestigious shoulder programs in the world. Founded by Dr Charles S. Neer, the father of modern shoulder surgery, the service has a rich history of excellence, led over the years by Professor Charles S. Neer, Professor Louis U. Bigliani, and currently Professor William Levine, MD.
During the visit, A/Prof Raniga had the privilege of presenting the latest Translational research to the Columbia Orthopaedics Department, in the presence of Dr Neer’s iconic portrait. He also had the opportunity to collaborate and exchange knowledge with Professor William Levine, MD, Associate Professor Charles Jobin, Fellows Dr Matthew LeVasseur and Dr Michael Danaher, Residents, and the administrative team. The visit was shared with Japanese Traveling Fellows Dr Nobuyasu Ochiai and Dr Kazuta Inoue.
A/Prof Raniga expressed his gratitude for the team’s generosity, guidance, and time, highlighting the visit as an invaluable and memorable experience.
