A/Prof Sumit Raniga is involved in a new clinical trial investigating whether a molecular therapy already in use for eye disease could provide relief for patients with Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder).
Frozen Shoulder is a molecular pathology with a biomechanical manifestation. Although often perceived as a relatively “benign” condition, patients suffering from severe pain, marked restriction of motion, and dysfunction with simple daily activities know it to be highly debilitating. The condition most commonly affects active women between the ages of 40 and 60 and is increasing in prevalence.
This novel molecular therapy may not be a “magic bullet,” but the aim is to identify a safe and effective intervention that could alter the natural history of Frozen Shoulder by reducing both the severity and prolonged course of the disease.
The trial was recently featured on Channel 9 National News by Ms Gabriella Rogers.
