As part of the Pre-Course Educational Event, A/Prof Raniga presented on the “Future of Preoperative Planning”, alongside esteemed colleagues Dr John Sperling, Dr Lionel Neyton, Professor Joaquin Sanchez-Sotelo, Dr Philippe Valenti, and Professor Giuseppe Porcellini.

A/Prof Raniga was pleased to contribute in several expert panel discussions, presenting MQ TOR Labs translational research and his Subpectoral Biceps Tenodesis surgical technique.  He presented the results of the recently completed in-depth Biomechanical Analysis of Anterior Cable Reconstruction with Biological Tuberoplasty, using the six-degree-of-freedom, eight-muscle-actuated continuous-motion Advanced Ex-Vivo Cadaveric Shoulder Simulator.

The meeting was of the highest scientific quality, featuring outstanding lectures and thought-provoking, open and honest discussions.  A/Prof Raniga noted that he learnt a great deal from his Spanish colleagues.

He was pleased to share translational research from the MQ TOR Lab, presenting work in both the rotator cuff and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty domains.

A/Prof Sumit Raniga was pleased to attend and contribute to the SECEC – Shoulder & Elbow Community Congress 2025 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.  He congratulated Dr Roger van Riet MD, PhD and Dr Tjarco Alta on delivering an excellent congress.

The Macquarie Translational Orthopaedic Research Lab contributed three papers to the meeting.  A/Prof Raniga was honoured to be invited by Dr Lionel Neyton and Dr Samuel Antuña to join Dr Alexandre Lädermann and Dr Patric Raiss on the podium for a 50-minute arthroplasty case-based discussion.

A/Prof Raniga valued the opportunity to reconnect with his European shoulder and elbow colleagues, mentors, and friends, and to learn from outstanding surgeon-scientists from across Europe and around the world.

During the SESA Registrar Master Class, A/Prof Raniga shared knowledge and insights on the natural history of rotator cuff tears, the management of massive rotator cuff tears, case-based teaching, and clinical examination of the shoulder.

At the AOA Annual Scientific Meeting, A/Prof Raniga alongside A/Prof Richard Appleyard, presented two basic science studies from the Macquarie Translational Orthopaedic Research Lab: The Biomechanical Validation of the Collin Classification of Massive Rotator Cuff Tears and the Biomechanics of Anterior Cable Reconstruction and Biologic Tuberoplasty.

He also had the honour of moderating a session on instability and rotator cuff tears with Dr Sindy Vrancic, featuring presentations by Dr Khalid Mohammed, Dr Marc Hirner, Dr Greg Hoy, and Dr Kenneth Cutbush.

A/Prof Raniga valued the opportunity to connect with friends, colleagues, and members of the AOA from across Australia.

A/Prof Sumit Raniga was honoured to return to Queenstown, New Zealand as an invited international guest speaker at the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association (NZOA) Annual Scientific Meeting; focusing on high-quality content regarding complications and complaints.

A/Prof Raniga, a proud graduate of the NZOA SET Training Program, described it as a privilege to return to New Zealand after 10 years and to share his academic journey.  He thanked Dr Khalid Mohammed, President of the NZOA, and Dr Andrew Stokes, President of the New Zealand Shoulder and Elbow Society (NZSES), for the invitation and the opportunity to present translational research from the Macquarie Translational Orthopaedic Research Lab.

He delivered five plenary lectures to an audience that included friends, teachers, and mentors, and expressed his gratitude for their support and encouragement.  A/Prof Raniga also acknowledged the exceptional hospitality, collegiality, and generosity he experienced during the meeting.

The event was made particularly memorable when he was presented with an All Blacks jersey by the legendary Richie McCaw, Israel Dagg, and Colin Slade in recognition of his contribution to the meeting.

A/Prof Sumit Raniga was honoured to be invited as faculty at the inaugural M.O.R.E. Australian Shoulder Summit, held in Sydney on 19 – 20 June 2025.

The summit brought together an outstanding faculty and delegates, fostering valuable knowledge sharing, engaging presentations, and excellent discussions. The event was recognised as an exceptionally well organised and executed scientific meeting, thanks to the efforts of the Australian Medacta Team.

Special thanks were extended to Chairman Dr Richard Dallalana and the scientific committee for the kind invitation, as well as to the Medacta Team for their warm and generous hospitality.

As part of the program, A/Prof Raniga presented MQTOR Lab’s translational research and moderated a session on preoperative planning. The meeting was further enriched by the presence of Professor Ralph Hertel as the international guest speaker, whose expertise and perspectives greatly benefited all attendees.

This summit marked a promising beginning for future meetings in the field.

A/Prof Sumit Raniga and the Macquarie University Translational Orthopaedic Research Lab (www.mqtorlab.com.au) were honoured to host Professor Ralph Hertel.

Widely recognised as one of the leading thinkers in the field of shoulder surgery, Professor Hertel shared his remarkable depth of knowledge, experience, and perceptive insights with the team.

During the visit, A/Prof Raniga and colleagues presented the centrepiece of their Arthrokinematics Program: the eight-muscle actuated, six-degree-of-freedom ex vivo cadaveric shoulder simulator, known as the Translational Shoulder.

The visit was an inspiring and motivating opportunity for the team, who greatly valued Professor Hertel’s time and effort in joining them.
